In my latest restoration work, in addition to repairing a pair of VTL Tiny Triode 25 monoblock amplifiers, I was also entrusted with the VTL Integrator Line Preamplifier. This model is an excellent matching option for the Tiny Triode 25, creating a high-quality, high-performance audio system.

A Quick but Effective Service

Unlike the complex repair of the power amplifiers, the work on this preamplifier was relatively straightforward. The client reported some issues related to sound quality and, after opening the unit, I found that the main problem was a significant accumulation of dust inside the chassis. I therefore carried out a thorough cleaning, blowing away the built-up dust, and then focused on the tubes.

ECC82 Replacement

Inside the preamplifier, I found two ECC82 tubes of different brands and with uneven efficiency levels, which is far from ideal when aiming for a well-balanced sonic response. I therefore replaced both with a selected, matched pair of ECC82s, ensuring better signal balance and greater overall sonic consistency.

Ready for Optimal Performance

After this service, the VTL Integrator Line Preamplifier is once again delivering optimal performance, ready to be paired with the VTL Tiny Triode 25. Even simple maintenance like this can make a real difference in keeping sonic performance at its highest level, ensuring perfect synergy between preamplifier and power amplifiers.
